You got questions? We've got answers!

How far in advance should I book?
Whenever you're ready, but the earlier the better if you wish to guarantee availability. We take reservations up to 2 years in advance. During our busy season (roughly April-October) we recommend a minimum of 6 weeks in advance. If you are planning a lengthy trip, we recommend at least 3 months in advance. We do sell out around holidays.

What comes with my Campervan?
Your Campervan comes fully equipped with everything you need to get on the road: bed linens and pillows, a kitchenette complete with a gas stove, refrigerator, pots, pans, plates, utensils, and a map of the United States. We also like to throw in some surprise goodies as part of our Welcome Package.
Why should I rent a Campervan?
Because you will have an awesome one-of-a-kind experience! If you are completely new to Campervans start here.

I'm ready to go! But where?
Your imagination is the limit. If your imagination is feeling a little limited right now, check out our Trip Ideas and Gallery pages for inspiration.

What else should I pack?
No need to over-pack. Bring clothing, personal hygiene products, and any outdoor equipment you may want to use on your trip. The Campervan has its own lighting system but a flashlight or headlamp is useful for nighttime adventures. We also highly recommend sunblock and bug spray if your journey calls for it!

Can I play my music over the stereo?
You bet! Our Campervans come equipped with auxiliary ports and we provide you with a free cable to connect your device or phone as part of our Welcome Package.

How do I charge my phone?
All of our Campervans are equipped with 12v power ports. You will need an inverter to connect your USB cord. We rent these real cheap ($10 for any rental under 20 days) if you don't have one. Alternatively, you can find them at most any electronics store or gas station.

Do you have a maximum or a minimum rental period?
There is no maximum rental period, but we ask that you contact us before booking trips exceeding 60 days in length so we can best accommodate your request. The normal minimum rental period is 5 days.
Can I bring my dog? My cat? My three-toed sloth?
We love our pets as you do yours, however at this time we cannot accept pets.
Can I take my Campervan to a Music Festival?
Absolutely! We've done it more than a few times ourselves. We enjoy tent camping, but the Campervan is a total game-changer.

How about Burning Man?
Unfortunately not - we love Burning Man but the Playa is no place for a Campervan! Playa dust is not just messy but highly corrosive and wreaks havoc on mechanical and electrical components if not removed quickly and completely.
Do I have to camp in a designated Campground?
You are free to camp anywhere you see fit! We recommend camping in designated/organized Campgrounds as they tend to provide basic amenities that keep campers happy, i.e. showers, toilets. Having said that, if you are feeling adventurous, we actively encourage you to seek out non-traditional campsites! Some of our most incredible Campervan experiences have taken place on National Forest or BLM land. See the next two questions.
Where can I camp near NYC?
Believe it or not, there are actually camping opportunities IN New York City! Check out Camp Gateway at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn where you can spend the night at a reclaimed airport turned State Park! Prefer skyline views of downtown? Try Liberty Harbor RV Park in Jersey City. Looking to get a little further out of town? Wildwood State Park in Long Island offers incredible campsites on seconds from the beach and 90 minutes from NYC, or if you'd prefer to stay north of the City there's always Beaver Pond 45 minutes out.
Should I make campsite reservations in advance?
If camping at an organized site, we highly recommend reserving in advance. Most public campgrounds set aside a portion of their available sites for "walk-ins", meaning they are available on a first-come first-served basis. National Parks and National Forests generally have very inexpensive rates and some offer exceptional sites. Prime sites sell out well in advance during high season. If you don't have reservations, don't panic! Things almost always work out one way or another, and campers tend to be helpful, friendly folk. Here are a few links we recommend visiting for public campsite and reservation information:

So where else can I camp? Is it true there are opportunities to camp for free?
There are many opportunities to camp outside of organized campgrounds. And yes, many of them are free. Those in the know tend to be a little hesitant to share information on free camping or wild camping (also known as "boondocking") as they are often concerned that if this information were widely available their favorite spots might be overrun. Dedicate a little time to research and you will find a wealth of information available online. Always be respectful of the environment and our natural resources. Read up on local rules and regulations and respect "No Camping" signs, they are there for a reason.

How many miles should I plan to drive?
Try using Google Maps to calculate roughly how far it is you intend to travel, then add approximately 30% of your total to account for sightseeing, rest stops, etc. We include 100 miles per day free of charge!
Aw schucks. I'd really love to rent a Campervan but I can't take that much time off.
We sincerely want everybody to be able to experience a Campervan trip. Contact us and we will do our best to work with you. There are times, particularly during our low season, that we can reduce our minimum rental period.

Where are you located?
We are based in New York, NY. NYC. The Big Apple. City of Dreams. Our office is in Midtown Manhattan, our lot is in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Both are readily accessible by public transportation, both subway and bus.

Will all my suitcases fit in the Campervan?
Our Campervans are large enough to easily accommodate a reasonable amount of luggage and have a good amount of space to store your items. Of course, we recommend  soft-sided suitcases as they tend to be less awkward. The feedback that we have gotten in the past indicates that most people actually over-pack.

Why do you make such liberal use of exclamation points?
We're just really excited!

How did you come up with the name "Wayward Campers"?
Many hours of discussion and a several bottles of bourbon.
